Graz 99ers-MAC Budapest 4-2

In the opening game the memorial tournament was between EBEL club Graz 99ers and MAC Budapest of the MOL League. The game was played in the practice rink because Graz refused to play on the main ice because of the conditions on the main rink, MAC coach Gergely Majoross gave Bence Bálizs the start in net with Thomas Höneckl starting for Graz.
Early in the game MAC had a two man advantage that they capitalized on when Ryan Ruikka faked a shot on the blue, threw it across to Balázs Somogyi who sent a rocket past the Graz goalie. After the goal, Bálizs left the game with an injury and was replaced by Gergely Arany in net, 70 seconds later Arnold Silló scored from close range to put MAC up by two.
In the second period it look as if Graz had woken up as they created some scoring chances, Brendon Nash cut the deficit to one goal at the start of the second period, Zintis Zusevic was credited with the assist. Later in the period Graz had a two man advantage that they were not able to take advantage of.
The third period was a very well balanced period, in the 48th minute Graz tied the game up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Alexander Feitchner. Later in the period Markus Piermann gave Graz the a 3-2 lead. MAC kept up the attack but the Austrian goalie stood tall in net. MAC pulled Arany in favor of the extra attacker however. Feitcher scored his second goal of the game in the empty net to give Graz a 4-3 win.

Fehérvár AV19-Comarch Cracovia 3-1

In the other semi final game the host Fehérvár took on Polish club Cracovia, who did not have their full roster because Poland is playing in the Olympic Qualifiers. Fehérvár coach Benoit Laporte started Miklós Rajna in net, on the other side Cracovia had a young goalie in Robert Kowalowka.  In the first period Fehérvár controlled more of the game but Cracovia held their own as well. The home team was not able to capitalize on the only power play of the period.
Before the second period was even a minute old Fehérvár took the lead when Chris Owens took a shot from the blue line that made it through traffic. Both teams had scoring chances when they were on the man advantage however the tying goal was an even strength after a defensive mistake by Fehérvár. Patrik Svitana roofed a shot from the edge of the crease. The teams went into the break all locked up at 1-1.
In the third period Csanád Erdély had a great scoring chance that the Cracowia goalie saved but minutes later David Makowski took a feed from Brance Orbán in the slot and slipped the puck into the back of the net. With fehérvár on the power play István Sofron put the home team up when he banged home a rebound for the goal. Fehérvár held on to a 3-1 win.
